Becoming A Millionaire With A Piece Of Straw

by Masami Sato

A rich man born out of giving!

Given below is a mythological story from Japan about the beauty of giving to others and it tells us how we can receive the most perfect gifts when we’re giving and grateful of what we own.

Here is the story.

A long time ago, there lived a penniless young farmer. Nothing that he did turned out to be profitable. He was completely impoverished without any money, without anyone to help and nothing to eat. One night, totally at his wit’s end, he went to a shrine and sat near the altar and pleaded to Gods to show him what to do.

“I have always been truthful and assiduous, but all my industry never resulted in anything good for me. What did I do wrong?”

He fell asleep besides the altar just after having asking his question. In the morning, as he was waking up, he saw one of the Gods in his dream surrounded by a blinding golden light. The God’s voice echoed through his mind.

“When you wake up today, treasure the very thing you have in your hand and keep giving it generously to others on your way,” the God whispered.

The farmer was brimming with questions when he woke up but he tried to shake off his sleep and clear his mind of the strange but clear dream he had. However, he saw a bit of a straw in his hand. It must have remained on his clothes while he worked in his fields.

He was about to throw the straw away, but remembered what God had told him. Once again he sat down. Then he looked curiously at the bit of straw.

He sat for a while unable to comprehend what all that meant. He did not know how a piece of straw can turn out to be useful. Then he saw a wasp hovering around. After a while the wasp settled on one end of his straw. He caught it and with the help of a thread from his clothes, tied it to the straw. And with a wasp at the end of his straw, he went on his way.

He had proceeded only a bit when he saw a woman and her child coming from the opposite direction. The child was crying. When he wished them, the boy saw the straw in the farmer’s hand with a wasp dangling at the end. The child was curious and asked the farmer if he could have it. He was about to refuse when he remembered how God had told him to cherish what he had and also at the same time to give to others what he had. So he offered the straw to the child. The mother became happy since the child stopped crying because of the gift. In return for the straw the lady gave the man three tangerines.

The farmer continued on. And as he walked, he began feeling a little hungry. He thought of eating the tangerines but he reminded himself it was about giving the gift to others, not to himself.

He had to climb a steep hill and there he saw a trader sitting on the earth under a tree. Near the man was a wooden box. The farmer wished the trader who seemed to be very tired. The trader saw the tangerines the farmer had and asked if he could have them. The trader said he was very thirsty.

The farmer was as thirsty as the trader as he had been walking for long on that hot day. Nevertheless, he offered the tangerines to the trader, who then ate all the three tangerines and felt recharged. He felt very happy about the help rendered to him and opened the wooden box that was by his side. Inside the box were rolls of silk that was dyed with hand. The merchant gifted the farmer one roll and proceeded on his way.

So off the farmer went again following the path. He found a stream along the way and he took a deep drink making him feel totally refreshed. Life seemed to be easier and was flowing now.

The farmer walked and walked not seeing anyone for a long time. He started to think that maybe this was it – his fortune. So, he decided to go to the nearby town to sell the fabric.

But as soon as he turned the corner, he found a group of soldiers. One of them, who appeared to be the leader of the group, was standing near a horse that had fallen on the ground. The leader of the soldiers was saying something to the men of his group.

“This horse would not last long. We just have to leave it. Just take care of it and catch up.” He jumped up on another horse and galloped off disappearing out of sight.

The fighters who remained there conferred among themselves as to what to do. They had no interest in putting it to death but there was no other option. Finally one of them drew the sword.

The farmer pleaded with them not to do that. He said he was ready to look after the animal. He said they can have the bolt of silk for letting him care for the horse. They agreed to the deal and left the place quickly.

With the dying horse by his side, the farmer just remained there. He wondered if he had done things wrongly and whether he would never become rich. Suddenly he remembered the river he had seen on the way.

He immediately went back to the stream, took off his shirt and soaked it in the fresh water so he could give water to horse. He returned to the horse still lying there on the ground. The farmer squeezed the wet cloth over the horse’s mouth. Very soon the horse began to respond and regained its consciousness, so the farmer pulled it up with all his might.

Once the horse was up the farmer was able to lead it to the river. The animal drank to its satisfaction and there was also green grass nearby that it could feed on. With both that the horse became fully recharged.

The farmer now had a companion. They journeyed together, the horse in front, and the farmer panting behind to keep up with it. They traveled for miles in that manner. At last, as the sun was about to set, the animal came to a stop just in front of a rather big house. When the farmer drew alongside, the horse pushed him in the direction of the gate with its snout.

When the farmer moved towards it, the gates opened and an old man came out of the house. The old man had dashed out of the house and he looked wan. He spotted the horse and the farmer, both just in front of the house.

The old man asked the farmer what it was that he needed. The farmer said that he wanted a place where he could sleep at night. The old man queried the farmer if he would mind looking after the house till his return as he had to leave for the nearby town on a pressing matter. He also said that it might take some time for him to return.

The old man looked as if he was in a hurry, so the farmer told him he can take his horse. The old man was very grateful about it and immediately left with the horse. As he left, he said something totally unexpected to the farmer.

“If I am not back in three years, this house becomes yours.”

As you possibly deduced, the old man did not come back.

The farmer lived in the large house for the rest of his life with a land full of crops surrounded by kind neighbors happily ever after. But he never forgot to always give away the things he had.

Thank you for reading this story. And what do you think it is all about?

Perhaps there is a secret to things. When we can turn the business of getting into the business of giving, our life gushes forward with greater plentitude. Still it might not be easy to incorporate into practical life this age old wisdom.

Here are some of the interesting distinctions we can find in this story :

* When we are ready to give what others need, they will consider it more valuable than while we are trying to ‘trade’ it (as basically we are always hopeful of getting something out of that transaction), as then they only consider the price we ask for and tend to pay less.

* When we are not possessive of whatever we have, we will perceive that we thereby have more chances as we can release the existing possessions.

* When we are down and out with the problems of life, instead of worrying about the negativities if we kept focus more on giving others and caring for them, life would surely bring glad tidings later.

* When we try to encash what we have created, believing that “this is the maximum it will bring”, as we think we might be the loser if it is not turned into cash, our life will stagnate. Instead of that, we should continue to give liberally whatever we have got and however wealthy we are or we are not.

Giving is intrinsic in the lives of many who have made it to the top. When giving is done first, we are better able to lead a life of grandeur, comfort and glory.

How You Can Really Attract Abundance

by Donna Stevens

Our decisions are what fashioned our destiny. We can never have the life shaped for us by other people. You need to undergo all the hardships before you can even get the chance to savor success. For people who make it a point to strive really hard in order for them to attract abundance are those that can truly take pleasure over the things that they dream about since we need to gear ourselves with enough perseverance to be on that situation we would like to be in.

We have the need as humans to dream what we wish to happen in our lives. We should make it a point to start aiming for something and gear ourselves with inspiration so we can make things possible. In life, there is nothing which is impossible just as long as we dream and we all our work just to make such dream come into a reality. We should strive hard to believe in our capabilities so we can effectively conquer any problem which may hinder us from victory.

Can you do anything and everything just to be able to attain success? You should be proud to answer YES to this question. In case we simply don’t trust ourselves then chances are we will never see any happening that may signal that we are heading through the journey of “success”. We must be able to reach for that life which is packed with comfort and convenience which is only attainable the moment when we trust our inner power so we can achieve what we desire.

In order for us to experience abundance then we should strive to think positive so we can realize that everything is possible. We can see that dreams are close enough that we can reach for them if only we start to work in attaining what we wish our lives to be. It is us that drive success into our lives so we need to take extra care for us not to give up the moment we were able to meet some obstacles along the way.

We are the masters of our destiny. No one has the right to rule over our lives and you can’t blame anyone for what happened and what will happen to you. Others may affect your life in one way or another but you have the power to rule your life and reject the opinion of others.

If we want to make a change in our lives then we need to realize what needs to be changed and the actions that we must undertake. What we think and act greatly affects in our goal to attract abundance. Success attracts success and confidence attracts confidence. It only implies that positive things will simply magnetize positive results. The same thing happen if you permit negative thoughts runs your life.

Bear in mind that success can attract success while confidence can attract confidence as well. So to attract abundance try to improve yourself in every way possible.

The law of attraction states that what you think about becomes part of your reality. So it is essential to think positively at all times to attract everything you want. It is also very important to thank everyone who helps you to attract abundance.

Now that you know that you have the will to rule your life in order to attract abundance, may you start to live up for this rule so you can see great changes in your life.

Most People Missed this in ‘The Secret’ . . . Did You Miss It, Too?

by Michael Angier

First of all, let’s be clear. The secret really never has been much of a secret.

The only secret about it is that some people over the centuries have used ‘the secret’ without knowing they were using a powerful law-the Law of Attraction (LOA). And surely there were some who did know the law and tried to keep it to themselves.

Simply put, the LOA is aligning our thoughts, beliefs, feelings and actions to attract what we want. It’s not some hocus pocus that allows us to have everything we want without any effort on our part. It is about creating a clear and congruent vibration that allows us to attract, accept and create what we want.

Like gravity, the LOA is neither positive nor negative. It may IMPACT us positively or negatively, but it is always consistent.

Step off your roof, and you’ll find that gravity works. And that has a certain ‘impact’ for sure. But isn’t it also a good thing that when you drive your car that gravity keeps you on the road? Of course it is.

And just like gravity, the LOA works consistently. Congruently think about, feel, expect and act on those things we want and we find ourselves experiencing them. Think about, feel and expect (fear) those things we don’t want and we attract THEM.

Does the law work? Yes.

Every time? Yes.

Recently, some news commentators have been dismissing the message of this popular movie and book (now a #1 bestseller) as just some rehash of positive thinking. The Law of Attraction (LOA) does involve positive thinking, but it is much more than that.

They also seem to infer that LOA tells us to only think and not act. They miss the point. There may have been some teachers in the movie that glossed over this part or it was edited out–but following your leadings as to what to do is certainly recommended.

To think about, believe, expect, feel and take no action is to not fully practice the LOA. Jim Rohn says, “Affirmation without discipline is the beginning of delusion.” To become clear on what we ardently desire is the first step–and an extremely important one-but it is by no means the only one. And that was easily missed by many who watched the movie. Most of us focus too much on the how and not enough on what and why.

Think of what, why and how as three legs of a stool. Which leg is more important? Of course they are all important. They each have value by themselves, but they fulfill their purpose when they are in harmony. But most of us tend to jump into the how and the difficulties we often see there instead of gaining the clarity on what and why we want something.

Sure, some good things come into our lives seemingly without us exerting any effort-and so do unpleasant things. But the more we align our energy and send a clear and consistent message to the Universe, the more we increase that vibration and attract what we want. Now that doesn’t mean we don’t do anything to attract it. I’ve always loved what the Quakers say, “When you pray, move your feet.”

In other words, take action.

Winning and Losing — What Does That Mean?

by Bob Proctor

It has been said that life is a game of chance-in a certain sense this is true. We cannot always choose the things that happen to us, no matter how unfair it may be. However, there is one thing we can choose, and that is how we respond to it.

Did you notice that the world seems to be made up of two kinds of people-the winners and the losers? The former groups make fast money almost without effort while the latter often are recipients of drama and unfortunate incidents. What is the secret of these winners? What is it that attracts prosperity in their lives?

The secret to enjoying a quality of life that winners have is having a positive attitude. Your emotions and thoughts is the composition of your attitude which in turn leads you to act in a specific way. What you have is the law of attraction in operation. If your desire is to have a six figure income, think fast money and excellence and you will have a six figure income before long.

This is very powerful if you want to change your life. When you determine in your mind what you want, emotions will come out of you and cause you to work in support of the desire on what you believe your life should be

Remember the law of attraction is a principle that has its conception since time immemorial and it is no respecter of persons. That means if you were born poor, it does not have to stay that way. You can become rich simply by reprogramming your attitude to one that will work for you.

Take for example two people with sales jobs. One considers his profession merely as a means of survival and therefore only works to that end. The second one believes he can make money and enjoy a quality of life despite adverse situations and tackles his career with enthusiasm and positive energy. Between the two with the same sales jobs– guess who will have the six figure income before long?

Whatever your present circumstances may tell you, there is incredible wealth available to people who want it. Your thought and emotions create ‘vibrations’ that attract the world’s resources to you. If you knew the power that resides in your attitude, it will change your life to a rich and satisfying one.

Winners and losers are not drawn out of the preordained hat of fate-it is a destination one arrives at through a constant series of quality decisions. Let the dream of wealth and prosperity in your heart penetrate into the reality you want to have-you are a winner because you shouldn’t have it any other way.
